The Sabrina/Salem switch feature does add a lot to the puzzle elements of each level, since you have to use each character's strengths to complete each of the levels. The controls are extremely tight and the graphics are superb for Game Boy Color standards, and some gameplay elements are used in great form. Like I mentioned above, Zapped is very traditional in design ¿ it doesn't offer anything drastically new to the genre, but what's been done is really good. Once all the kids are changed, it's all a matter of finding the exit to the next round. Salem can't head-bop animals or change them back, so it takes some clever switching of characters to complete the level. Some areas are blocked off to Sabrina, and that's where finding Salem the cat is necessary ¿ he's smaller and can tail-whip blocks that'll enable Sabrina passage to find the other kids. Then it's all a matter of waving the magic finger to turn them back into bratty kids again.

Sabrina starts her quest in the school, where she'll have to make her way over lockers, water fountains, and trash cans to head-bop kangaroos, snakes, spiders, and monkeys in order to stun them. To make everything right again, Sabrina has to go through four locations in town to change them all back again.

The story goes a little something like this: Sabrina's slipped up again and accidentally turned all of the school's kids into animals. The difference in Zapped!'s case is that this game's a traditional platformer, but that's a bit of an understatement ¿ there's some clever designs here, despite some straightforward, simplistic level layouts. Extremely vibrant colors, smooth animation, and tight controls were among Xtreme Sports top qualities, and the same is here as well. Xtreme Sports is really the perfect example to offer when describing this game, simply because Zapped! is utilizing the same game engine as well as the same artists for the job of bringing the animated show to the Nintendo portable.

Just don't expect Melissa Joan Hart in the cutscenes and you'll do just dandy. The game's aim is for the younger crowd, but Sabrina the Animated Series: Zapped is really an enjoyable ¿ though easy ¿ platformer that's both beautiful to look at and fun to play. Sabrina the Teenage Witch became an animated series last year thanks to Disney, and the cartoon series has hit the Game Boy Color courtesy of the same development team that brought Xtreme Sports to life on the handheld.
